Chandigarh 21 June (22G TV) Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) has been shocked and dismayed at the sad turn of events in Kabul Afghanistan on 18th June 2022. The barbaric act of Islamic terrorists who attacked and severely damaged the historic Karte Parwan Gurudwara shows their bigotry and ignorance. Sikhism is a religion of peace, brotherhood, and service to the wider community. Sikhs have lived peacefully in Afghanistan for centuries and violence and bloodshed in the name of religion brings disgrace to the peaceful teachings of Islam.
A four-hour gun attack and the explosion of over 20 bombs completely demolished the Gurudwara and killed three people. A worshipper, a security guard and a member of the Taliban Forces. We send our deepest condolences to the victims of this heinous attack. A once flourishing Afghan Sikh community of over 70,000, has been decimated to only 161.
Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) appeals to the Taliban Government in Kabul to ensure the, safety of the remaining Sikhs and other minorities in Afghanistan and to safeguard our historic gurudwaras which have deep spiritual significance for the Sikh World. We also appeal to Western governments to help evacuate the remaining Hindus & Sikhs from Kabul at the earliest and make arrangements for them to settle in more stable countries such as India, Canada, UK and USA.
